Ferndale rolls out the orange carpet for a full month of spine-tingling, family friendly festivities with its Frightfully Fun town-wide Halloween celebration. Things kick off Friday, Oct. 3, with free Artisan Pumpkin Carving on Main Street from 3 to 6 p.m. with carving stations along the street before the jack o’ lanterns light up in a sunset display.

For those who like their scares with a side of history, weekends bring guided Cemetery Tours at Ferndale Cemetery ($15-$30) and Candlelight Tours & Ghost Stories at the Ferndale Museum ($20, $15 for kids 5-12, free for kids under 5).

Then the month heats up with the Murder Mystery Magic Show at the Old Steeple on Saturday, Oct. 11 ($25), Broomsticks & Brews at the Ferndale Community Center on Sunday, Oct. 12 ($45), and the Monster Mash Block Party on Main Street on Wednesday, Oct. 29 (free).

Want more? Try Tarot & Spirits at the Victorian Inn, or sip and scry at Wine and Fortune Telling in Sitka Wine Lounge.

And don’t miss the grand finale: the Scaregrounds, where Griffin Loch transforms the Humboldt County Fairgrounds into a delightfully dark destination with three haunted houses, roaming haunters, food trucks, Marie Lavou’s Voodoo Lounge, Frightdale’s Symphony of Lights and more.
