COVID Cuts Rocky Horror Run Short

Ferndale Repertory Theatre announced today it is canceling its final weekend of performances of the musical comedy The Rocky Horror Show after members of the production tested positive for COVID-19. Theaters and live music venues have struggled to hold performances amid the pandemic and the current surge in cases makes the closure unfortunate but not entirely surprising. The theater also promised refunds for those with tickets for the shows scheduled for the coming days. It also stated its upcoming season would go forward and the schedule would be announced soon.

Dear Friends,

Ferndale Repertory Theatre (FRT) cancels the final weekend of The Rocky Horror Show, June 17 – June 19 due to positive Covid-19 cases within the production. In order to prioritize the safety of cast, crew, patrons and volunteers and reduce the risk of contagion moving forward, we are forced to cancel the remainder of the run.

Ticket holders for the final weekend will receive refunds.

When The Rocky Horror Show, directed by Cleo DeOrio, opened in late May 2022, it was a major victory and a reason to celebrate. The show was canceled both in fall of 2020 and fall of 2021 due to Covid-19 concerns. Although the 2022 run is cut short, FRT would like to thank all who made the three week run possible. It was a strong example of artist and designer adaptability and resilience. In addition, the audience’s generosity and excitement was palpable.

We look forward to continuing to offer quality live theater in our 51st season to be announced in the near future.
