Featured at the event was Len Smith, character designer now living in Bakersfield, who sold autographed artwork. Smith’s work has appeared in the ‘Toon Town’ sequence in the Disney animated movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit and in The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, which won four Emmy Awards. -
The Invisible Boy (Jacob Lawrence, of McKinleyville) interviewed Deadpool and Lady Deadpool, of Fresno, for his YouTube program. He also won second place in the Kids category. -
Featured at the event was actor and artist C. Andrew Nelson, whose multiple claims to fame include having appeared over 70 times in the official Darth Vader costume in movies, commercials and events. -
The Corpse Bride was well done by Vineyka Vega, of Rio Dell. She won the Fan Favorite contest award. -
Local college students Taiquia Williams (DC Super Hero Starfire a warrior princess from the planet Tamaran), Isarah Alexander (M’Baku, of Black Panther by Marvel Comics) and Mel Resendez (as Raven, the half-Azarathian, half-demon hybrid, who is part of the Cartoon Network TV show Teen Titans) had fun wandering the vendor aisles. -
A large crowd of attendees wandered through a mix of vendors and featured artists at the event (Deadpool and Lady Deadpool in the foreground). -
Wednesday Adams of the Adams Family was portrayed well by Ashley Day, of Fortuna, who received third place in the Adult category. -
Star Wars’ Rey (Amanda Moitoso, of McKinleyville) brought her daughter Emma dressed as BB8 and her parents, Dan and Wendy Moitoso, of Ripon, in Superman and Snow White costumes. -
The event included a few local artists, including cartoonist Karen Gordon, of Eureka. -
Winner of first place in the Adult category was Richard Strobach, of McKinleyville who came as Master Chief of the Halo trilogy and Reclaimer Saga. -
The Johnson family from Blue Lake all came as Star Wars characters, including Joel and the baby. -
Artist Megan E. Risk, formerly of Eureka and now of Manteca, did brisk sales of signed prints of her art work. -
Layla (right), dressed as Zelda from the action-adventure video-game series, visited one of the anime vendors. -
Local Coin-Op books artist and publisher Peter Hoey, of Arcata, was another local artist at the event. He co-produces his book series with his sister who lives in Brooklyn. -
Matthew Harris, of Eureka (in a Deadpool costume), Jacqueline Lipford (as Psylocke superheroine of the X-men comics) and Jera Harris (as Catwoman) examined the wares at one of the event vendor tables. -
Part of the contest’s judging criteria was character performance by the contest participants as they were called to the stage. -
