Some 40 people gathered at the Arcata Plaza today to show their support for Christine Blasey Ford, who testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee this morning about a high school party during which she says she was sexually assaulted by U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

There was also a minute of silence at the We #BelieveChristine and All Survivors noon rally to show solidarity with Ford and all those who have experienced sexual violence, often bearing the burden alone.

Some who attended carrying signs reading “Thank you, Dr. Ford” and “I Believe you Dr. Blasey Ford, Just as I Still Believe Dr. Hill,” while others held up their hands with the words “I Believe” written across the palms. See photographer Mark McKenna’s slideshow of the We #BelieveChristine and All Survivors gathering below.

Congressman Jared Huffman and 65 other Democratic representatives sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell today calling for Kavanaugh’s confirmation proceedings to be postponed. The current Washington, D.C., circuit court judge has denied Ford’s allegations and others that have since surfaced. He also testified today.

  1. Perhaps the Democratic party would have a shred of credibility left with which to pursue these (ahem) trumped-up charges if it had chosen to act with a modicum of integrity when the proverbial shoe was on the other foot.

It is rather difficult to listen, without laughing uproariously, to the Democratic party’s narrative in which it presents itself as the defender of women and states that to confirm Kavanaugh would be to bring discredit upon the institution of the USSC.

    Why?

Because you just might have a problem with that whole credibility issue yourselves, considering that you’ve spent the last 20 years managing to ignore the presence of a known serial sexual predator among the list of super-delegates in your party who are neither elected nor accountable to the masses of party members.

It is doubly ironic, given that this sexual predator was among those whose votes were used to legitimize (sic) the candidacy of the sexual predator’s number one enabler: Hillary Rodham Clinton, who in 1998 had no time for notions such as “believe the woman.”

  2. this is the same group that delayed the vote for a Justice for over 11 months waiting to see if they became the majority, and they did….whether you are of one party or the other…you should care about the integrity of an individual sitting on the bench of the highest office in our land…but then we have the “top dog” also accused of indiscretions…where is the outrage about those accusations? We have become more divided in the past 20 months than I have ever seen in my lifetime…and I was born in the 40’s…..and this is of no help to anyone…time to take a deep breath and see what YOU, as a citizen, can do to help your community, Country, and do it with respect for others who may differ from your opinion..
