So it turns out the latex-clad founders of the Impropriety Society have packed up their playthings and joined the exodus to Portland. Is our county to be left adrift in a sea of vanilla? Not while a few dedicated kinksters yet remain. What Would Nawdy Do Productions is bringing its bag of tricks to the Siren’s Song Tavern for Fetish Night on Friday, Oct. 24 from 8 p.m. to midnight (free).

The informational/educational night is a peek into BDSM for everyone over 18 — LGBT, heterosexual, pansexual — and a chance to meet and mingle. Just keep in mind this is a public place and mind your manners. Nobody likes a creeper.

Nawdy herself is bringing in all sorts of nasty and possibly confusing equipment and toys along with a dozen or so little helpers in corsets and kilts to show you the, ahem, ropes. You can ask questions, inspect the tools of the trade and check out spanking demonstrations. Spanking, like Zumba, turns out to be more complicated than one might think. According to Nawdy, there are a number of techniques to master, such as Florentine style, flogging, paddling, and riding crops, and warming up and cooling down are necessary to avoid injury. Pay attention. Who knows what happens if you’re caught texting?

  1. There’s also a real, live play party the next night from Something Different Productions! Find us on Facebook for details!

  2. Fetish nite was fun at the Siren’s, but there is acually a very real group that follows in tradition of the Impropriety Society. Something Different Humboldt can be found on Facebook, they serve the sex possitive community and they throw some spectacular parties, and in no way are they vanilla! This crew really knows how to throw a sexy event for adults. There was a DJ, dancing, dungeon, cuddle spaces, smoking hot performances, and a skilled crew of volunteers to assist all your needs. There were a lot of people getting down, and the food was delicious.

  3. There’s certainly no chance of a vanilla sea washing up here! The reality is, the kink actually never left Humboldt. A new face in the game simply resumed what legacy the Impropriety Society left to the established alive and thriving, existent community. Something Different Humboldt is right here behind the Redwood curtain. Follow Something Different Humboldt on Face book to find out about the next event in 2015. See you there!
