Humboldt County is chock full of both character and characters, and the Journal wants to see them.
From now through June 20, use your camera, tablet, phone or any other snazzy device you may to capture the faces of Humboldt County. Photos should be submitted as high-resolution JPEGs via email to photocontest@northcoastjournal.com by the end of June 20. Pictures must be the real thing — save those photoshop skills for another project, please — and taken within the entry period.
In your email, please include the time, date and place the picture was taken, the names of those appearing in the photo and your name and daytime phone number (your number won’t be published, but we want to know how to get ahold of you to tell you that you’ve won!).
The contest sponsor, Eureka Art and Frame, has offered to frame the winning entry (up to size 20 inches by 16 inches) and we’ll throw in a $50 gift card to Plaza Grill, as well.

How many submissions per person?
There’s no limit, so happy shooting!
Are we allowed to use filters from our phone apps (i.e. Instagram, etc.,)?
How about “famous” pugs?
Humboldt is the best place to raise a FAMILY.how do I submit photo
Sorry it’s taken a few days to respond, but we’ve had an election to cover. Frankie, there’s nothing outlawing using filters from phone apps, but I can’t say how it would play with the judges, some of whom may be photo purists. 3D, famous pugs are absolutely fair game. And Lilian Gibson, the submission e-mail is in the story above. Send your photos as high resolution JPEGs to photocontest@northcoastjournal.com.
What a cool contest idea! Super excited to get out there & shoot for this! But first had a question or two for y’all; first, you mentioned Eureka Art & Frame will frame the winners image up to 20″x 6″ but didn’t offer any additional info so to be clear-am I to understand they will frame the pic free of charge? (Hope so! That’d be AWESOME!) Also, I was wondering what your thoughts are regarding copyright/ownership for all the contest entries?
Hey Polly, good questions. So, yes, the 20″X16″ frame for the winning shot would be free of charge, courtesy of the contest sponsor, Eureka Art and Frame. As to copyright/ownership issue, the Journal would have the right to print the pictures, post them to our webpage and use them in promotions. We would not use them for any other use without the photographer’s permission. And, if the photographer wished to resell or reuse the images elsewhere after they appear in the Journal, they would be free to do so.
To clarify, we’re limited to photos taken between May 29 and June 20, 2014?
