Fifth District Supervisor Jill Duffy today announced her support for Ryan Sundberg in the race to succeed her in office. Duffy, who is not seeking re-election, told the
Journal
that based on her conversations with Sundberg, she believes he has the temperament and listening skills required for the job.

“An important element is being a critical listener, being open to various viewpoints,” Duffy said. “It requires a lot of work, and in my conversations with Ryan I observed that he’s very thoughtful and diligent, and I know he is talking with a lot of people in the Fifth District.”

She added that as a lifelong local, Sundberg appreciates the distinct personalities of each community in the district.

  1. Well that pretty much tell you all you need to know about Sundberg. If he’s good enough for Jill, then he’s clearly not the change for which we have all been clamoring.

  2. Jill has a reputation for shutting out people she disagrees with, so this is not exactly a positive endorsement for Sundberg, in my view.

  3. She added that as a lifelong local, Sundberg appreciates the distinct personalities of each community in the district.

Can’t say I’ve ever seen him in Blue Lake?

  4. Has he spent any time in Hoopa, Weitchpec or Orleans? Never seen him out there once in last twenty years. He looks to me like he’d be more at home in Sacramento.

BTW, he first committed to sitting down with Fifth District farmers and the other candidates in a roundtable, to discuss ag issues facing the fifth. Then, he pulled out, citing a scheduling concern. Now he’s going on record as supporting ag land preservation, while every big developer in the fifth district is stuffing money in his pocket.

    I don’t trust the guy.

  5. I doubt that Jill’s endorsement will be seen as positive. She would have had a hard time winning reelection as an incumbent. Also, what’s with Mostranski as the campaign manager? And Sundberg lets him lurk around and inject himself into the interview for the Journal. This is not exactly an enlightened team. Pile on gobs of developer money and it looks like you get what you pay for. Could be unfortunate for the rest of us.
