The U.S. government can’t reduce the deficit or pass health care reform, but when it comes to weaponry, you better recognize! Within reason, that is: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez apparently believes that Eureka’s 6.5 temblor and Haiti’s devastating 7.0 quake were caused by a top-secret Pentagon shockwave weapon — a sort of disaster-blaster that can also cause floods, droughts and hurricanes,
according to a press release from el presidente’s state media outlet
.
Venezuela’s Big Poppa has evidently bought into
conspiracy theories
surrounding the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP), an atmospheric research facility in Alaska.
Chavez
has said
that our government’s ultimate goal is to wipe out Iran with our massive God Gun. Left unexplained: why Uncle Sam pointed the thing at the North Coast.
This article appears in Dog Fight.

OMG! Chavez watches Jesse Ventura. Hilarious. Insanity.
That makes SO much sense. I mean, the timing of the Eureka quake…seven minutes after 4:20. I bet the U.S. government REALLY wanted to shock us Humboldtians with timing like that.
There’s a different take out there… that the press release was actually a blog post marked opinion and subsequently misconstrued and played up with a bit of sensationalism. If there is an official news release, it’s surely available somewhere on an official website and it would be a interesting read. Anyone have a link? As with any rumor, evidence is needed.
"Venezuela’s Big Poppa has evidently bought into conspiracy theories surrounding the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP), an atmospheric research facility in Alaska."
HAARP is not a conspiracy theory. HAARP exists, therefore it is not a "theory".
Whether HAARP is used for weather and tectonic warfare is another issue…
Yes, Jeff. Conspiracy theories surrounding HAARP. There are conspiracy theories surrounding the assassination of JFK, too. All but the wackiest of them acknowledge that the assassination occurred.
Ryan Burns: You call this reporting? Your cultural biases shine through in this trite piece.
You did not link to a Venezuelan press release but to a Fox news article. Since when is Fox a reliable source on anything? Shoddy…
I think you are abusing your position as a member of the media.
Do you prefer The San Francisco Examiner, FD?
As the Fox link mentions, "The story has since been taken down from the Venezuelan Web site, but a Google cache of the charges remains intact."
The original report comes from Russia Today (the imbedded YouTube video). And, no, I don’t call this reporting — just passing along the reporting of others, which I found amusing.
Oh, and here’s the cached original of the post, though as AJ point out above, this doesn’t come directly from Chavez’s (purdy) mouth — just his "media mouthpiece."
Russian Times is an intersting collection of British Reporters getting Russio-centric news out. Lot less censorship in Russian Media..

The American Empire’s ability to cause major earthquakes has been known for the better part of 32 years. Was it not your great documentary by Dick Donner in 1978 that revealed to the world the true nature of covert underground research being conducted by the American scientists Otis and Luthor? Research, I might add, that had gone from theoretical to real when your government attempted to test its evil machinations upon its own citizens with the aide of American nuclear devices.
Do you deny this Ryan? I suggest you visit Figueiredo’s on G Street in Arcata and get yourself educated before you massacre the truth again.
Oh dear god. How could I forget the Luthorian dual-warhead principle? Consider me chastened, AJ. Now what’s this Figueiredo’s place you mention?
I agree. But remember, there are three or more sides to every story 🙂
I thought that the residents of the North Coast sold their souls to the devil, at least according to Pat Robertson. 🙂
I for one support our new (old?) god-gun toting overlords..
