Put some fire in your footwork at the Humboldt Latin Dance and Music Festival, happening Sept. 24-27 at Redwood Raks World Dance Studio ($195 full festival pass, $175 advance online). More than 30 workshops in salsa, bachata, Afro-Cuban dance and more bring beginners and experienced dancers together with world-class instructors, including SalsaMania champions John Narvaez, Liz Rojas and Erika Lachenmeier. When class lets out, the beat keeps going with three late-night dance parties fueled by Latin music DJs and the high-energy Afro-Cuban sounds of the Latin Peppers. Bring your dancing shoes — and maybe a backup pair.

Eureka gets a chance to celebrate one of its own (and help preserve one of its landmarks) when Sara Bareilles: Good Grief screens Saturday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Eureka Theater (tickets online at eurekatheater.org). This is Humboldt, after all, where everyone seems to be separated from Sara Bareilles by about half a degree. The intimate documentary follows the Eureka native as she reunites with longtime musical collaborators to record her first album in seven years after a period of profound loss. Bareilles gave her blessing for the hometown fundraiser, held in the same theater where she played her sold-out 2007 homecoming concert. All proceeds support preservation efforts, with roof replacement the top priority.

Arcata’s biggest, brightest fall party is back when the 52nd annual North Country Fair fills the Arcata Plaza from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, and Sunday, Sept. 20 (free). This year’s “Stronger Together” celebration brings 180-plus artists and crafters, three stages of local music and entertainment, food booths, kids’ activities and two distinctly Arcata parades: Saturday’s All Species Parade and Sunday’s hip-shaking Samba Parade, both at 1 p.m. Don’t forget your shopping bag, water bottle and reusable beer cup, but please leave pets at home.

Button up your bustles and prepare to peek into the future at A Very Victorian Tea & Tarot, Sunday, Sept. 20, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Eureka Woman’s Club ($75, $60 members). The Clarke Museum’s annual fundraiser pairs an elegant Victorian afternoon tea with a supernatural twist. Cassaro’s Catering serves tea sandwiches, scones, cakes and tea, with mimosas and champagne cocktails and mocktails for extra sparkle. Three tarot readers offer complimentary readings while live harp music by Lonni Magellan sets the mood. There are also mini exhibits, a Cecile Clarke altar, a silent auction and costume and fancy-hat contests judged by Olivia Gambino. Proceeds benefit the Clarke Museum.
