I can’t support a candidate who makes this a Mac vs. Windows debate. We need unity, not divisiveness.
Wow, she even looks supervisorial all of a sudden… must be the pearls.
Ummm, is this part of the left’s “strength in numbers” strategy? Perhaps a few more will get in the race…
So Hank, heard any rumors as to who’s going to take on Jimmy Smith?
OMG, did you just drop your hankie, Mark?
I plan on working on Estelle’s campaign.
You go, girl!
I pity the candidate who runs against Smith. The man has made an absolute art out of serving his constituents in a district split 50/50 politically. When I was sick, he offered to mow my lawn! Good luck…
Good observation 6:39. It’s called playing it safe. A bunch of people call you? Do what they demand. That’s not the type of person I want representing me. Sometimes unpopular decisions must be made.
Playing it safe is standing out in front of crowds saying things they want to hear and sponsoring symbolic measures that you know don’t make a damn bit of difference in the big picture. Meanwhile, Jimmy leads on the Klamath, leads seven counties in a huge watershed restoration project, gets problem properties cleaned up, and finally gets some progress on the Salt River. That is the type of person I want representing me. I want someone who is more interested in completing something than getting their picture in the paper.
I too look forward to supporting him for at least one more term.
Hank,
Is that pencil drawing an early rendering of Humboldt Bay? It almost looks like it could be Fort Humboldt from across the bay or near what is now the Coast Guard station.
I think it’s meant to be a view of the future “Humboldt City.” Detail from the image we used on our cover a few weeks ago.
Jimmy Smith is unbeatable. Good man also.
I used to be a big fan of Estelle’s, until the Trees Foundation lawsuit came about. After our initial press release, Estelle hosted Darryl Cherney, Penny Andrews, and Doug Wallace, in what was basically a 15-minute smear piece, mostly focusing on me(sound familiar?). I was not called to chime in on this piece, it was all the SoHum crew, just spewing their hateful and slanderous garbage, about me (not the lawsuit itself), and I wasn’t given the opportunity to defend my position; in fact, I only heard about it second-hand, and heard it the next morning on the replay of KMUD news. Estelle finished the interview by casting doubt on Ms. Miller’s position, without checking any facts or having anyone from the plaintiff’s side on the show. Interestingly enough, when she resigned, I read a letter from another local, who was saying that she wasn’t sorry to see Estelle resign after listening to what sounded like a 15-minute advertisement for the Matteel Center, also disguised as a news broadcast about the whole Reggae on the River/Matteel Center controversy. Seems that the greed has really gotten to SoHum, and some people are willing to say and do anything to get their hands on that $$. Pretty sad, Humboldt lefties.
Don’t forget Estelle’s extensive electioneering for Gallegos – cooing “Paul, you’re the most accessible politician…” Bias, as someone else noted, has Estelle’s name next to it in the dictionary.
rose,
to be fair, paul’s stance on pot earned his vote in SoHum. estelle didnt have much influence.
and why is estelle the “worst kept” secret? she is much more well known and connected than clendenon…..ive enjoyed and respected estelle’s news coverage for over a decade…..not to mention her general involvement with the community. im not sure if she has a chance to win the election or not, but im rooting for her..
When I was sick, he offered to mow my lawn!
If he mows my lawn, I’ll support him too! Has he mowed everybody’s lawn in the district?
He’s a good guy, but no candidacy should ever be unopposed. Bad for the democratic process.
“decidedly Colbertian”?? Give me a quote where she says she’s like Stephen Colbert announcing his candidacy. Otherwise, it’s just more of the same NCJ “if we printed it, you said it” attitude.
The NCJ is decidedly Eureka Reporterian.

No kidding, man, especially when we all know that Mac owners are losers with no life who think that by owning a Mac they somehow become cool, when they have essentially painted a big “SHOOT THE NERD LOSER” on themselves. Mac isn’t better, and the only people who say so SUCK BIG TIME.
You know who you are…
Colbertian.
Try to keep up, people.
