  1. You could do worse than having a vinyl sticker epitaph, they could name a section of freeway after you.

  2. I think you meant epithet, not epitaph? Unless maybe it’s a gloomy statement about the future of them and their vehicle…

…and the real question is “what’s with pitbull owners?” What’s with the grenade decal I see on cars everywhere in the bay area? Esp. the east bay. Only seen a couple around here, let’s see if the meme migrates.

  3. The epitaphs are those “In loving memory of…” stickers. I’ve wondered about those grenade stickers too. I’ve supposed that, like Raiders decals, it’s a way of announcing “I am an asshole” to fellow commuters, but this desperate-to-be-cool kid gives us a clue as to what the grenades are all about.

  4. Here’s a handy mnemonic by David Galef (from Verbatim magazine):

The epigram’s a pithy saying, Full of paradox and wit.
The epithet’s a brief description. A clever name that scores a hit.
The epigraph’s a type of preface, Like the lead-in to a writ.
The epitaph is seen on tombstones, Related to who’s under it.
All four are commonly confused, But in each usage, three don’t fit.
