The county's multi-agency critical incident response team is investigating a police pursuit yesterday evening that reportedly saw a suspect shoot at officers from the fleeing vehicle and at least one officer return fire before the chase ended in a non-injury car crash at the intersection of Buhne Street and Harrison.
No injuries were reported in the chaotic scene, though information remains sparse about exactly what transpired.
According to a press release, a deputy on patrol in the area of Fairway Drive in Eureka spotted a vehicle that had evaded an EPD traffic stop earlier in the evening. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle and it again fled.
"During this pursuit, an individual inside the suspect vehicle reportedly shot at deputies," the press release states. "The pursuit continued and the suspect reportedly fired additional shots towards law enforcement. At that point, an officer involved shooting occurred."

Officers from a variety of agencies work to secure the scene of the crash that ended the pursuit that reportedly saw multiple shots fired at pursuing officers.
After the crash, three occupants of the vehicle were detained but it's unclear if any were arrested and their identifies have not yet been released.

Critical Incident Response Team investigating pursuit, officer involved shooting in Eureka
On July 20, 2022, at about 7:20 p.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol in the area of Fairway Drive in Eureka located a vehicle wanted by the Eureka Police Department following a pursuit within their jurisdiction earlier in the evening. Deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued through the Pine Hill community.
During this pursuit, an individual inside the suspect vehicle reportedly shot at deputies. The pursuit continued and the suspect reportedly fired additional shots towards law enforcement. At that point, an officer involved shooting occurred. The pursuit concluded at the intersection of Buhne Street and Harrison Avenue when the suspect vehicle was involved in a traffic collision, becoming disabled. Three occupants of the vehicle were detained on scene.
There are no reported injuries as a result of this incident and there is no perceived ongoing threat to the community at this time.
The Humboldt County Critical Incident Response Team has been activated to investigate this incident.
