Posted By on Sun, Jan 3, 2021 at 12:42 PM

The National Weather Service Eureka Office has issued a winter storm warning for elevations above 4,000 in Northern Trinity County, as heavy snow is expected across the Trinity Alps Monday morning through Monday evening.

According to NWS, "Moderate to heavy precipitation will spread across the region Monday morning through Monday evening. Snow will subsequently develop across the Trinity Alps in Trinity County. Snowfall totals up to 12 inches are expected at Scott Mountain Summit on Highway 3 resulting in hazardous travel conditions."

Meanwhile, another round of dangerous surf will be hitting the coastline as a large, long-period westerly swell begins arriving tonight and is expected to produce breaking waves in the 22- to 25-foot range Monday and Tuesday, the NWS reports.

The NWS Eureka Office also reports we'll have a stormy day on the coast Monday with moderate to heavy rain and strong and gusty winds.  A High Wind Watch will be in effect from 4 a.m. Monday until 4 p.m. Monday.

Both weather watches are part of a series of storm systems hitting the North Coast as the new year begins.
