Arcata Police released the name of the man who died last week reportedly after his brother hit him on the head with a wine bottle. According to Arcata Police Sergeant Chris Ortega, a call reporting a “physical altercation between two brothers residing in the same house” came in on Monday, October 26, about 4:35 p.m.

Ortega said that Larry Neil Brown, age 46, and his brother, Eric Jasper Brown, age 45, got into an altercation in the 4900 block of Van Dyke Court.

“Larry Neil Brown…suffered a head injury during the altercation,”  Ortega said. He was transported to Mad River Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Ortega explained that Eric Jasper Brown who left the scene of the incident at a high rate of speed was taken into custody on suspicion of homicide later that day.

However, Eric Brown was released on October 29 and is out of custody at this time.

“The circumstances leading to Larry Brown’s death remain under investigation,” Ortega said. “An autopsy has been completed [but] a final determination as to cause of death is pending. The APD has submitted a report with preliminary findings to the District Attorney’s Office for review.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the APD Investigations Unit at (707) 822-2424.

The Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office states the “case is currently pending.”
