The Eureka office of the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning and a red flag warning for parts of the region as another day of high temperatures hits.

Interior areas of Humboldt could see near record triple-digit heat today and tomorrow, when the heat advisory ends at 6 p.m.

People are cautioned to drink plenty of fluids, not to leave pets or small children alone in cars and to reduce outdoor activities or leave anything strenuous for the early morning or evening hours.

The NWS is also cautioning that “critical fire weather conditions” are expected to arrive this evening in the form of strong winds, which are expected to last until Wednesday morning, across areas that have seen prolonged heat.

The red flag warning goes into effect at 10 p.m. today and lasts until 10 p.m. tomorrow.

“These winds will impact Lake, Trinity, and northeast Mendocino Counties from late this evening into Wednesday morning, as well as interior Humboldt and Del Norte Counties from late this evening through Tuesday evening,” the warning states. “Strong winds, combined with very low relative humidity values and poor overnight recoveries, will result in critical fire weather conditions.”
