UPDATE: All of Humboldt County is now under a red flag warning with lightning from thunderstorms forecast to move through the region tonight and into tomorrow, posing a threat for new fires, according to an update this morning.

The red flag warning is in effect from 11 p.m. today to 11 p.m. Monday.

Meanwhile, interior areas are expected to see afternoon highs in the 91 to 101 degree range, with 60s to 70s along the coast.

Most of Humboldt County will be under a fire weather watch Sunday evening through Monday evening due to scattered thunderstorms while some interior areas will be under a red flag warning.

According to the Eureka office of the National Weather Service, the gusty storms will cause current fires to “behave erratically” and any fires that may develop from lightning strikes would likely spread rapidly.

As of this afternoon, the fire watch and red flag warning will be in effective from 11 p.m. Sunday to 11 p.m. Monday.
