As more people are staying indoors due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Northern California Community Blood Bank is losing opportunities to collect blood and has a critically low supply. The blood bank is seeking healthy donors to visit their local blood bank to donate.

The Eureka Faith Community Center is holding a blood drive Thursday, March 26, 9 a.m - 3 p.m., which will require making an appointment by calling 442-1784.

According to the Northern California Community Blood Bank, the COVID-19 outbreak has canceled 4,000 nationwide blood drives and blood banks have seen more than 130,000 fewer blood donations.

“The blood bank is staffed by healthy professionals who understand universal precautions and disinfection,” a blood bank’s Facebook post state

Editor's note: The post was updated to clarify that healthy donors do not need to make an appointment to donate blood. However, the Eureka Faith Community Center's blood drive is requiring appointments. The Journal regrets the error.
