Alleged Plot to 'Harm' Students Thwarted at Fortuna High School

Two minors are being held at Juvenile Hall after Fortuna police and Fortuna High School thwarted what they believe was a plot to “harm other students,” according to a joint press release.

According to the release, the high school received information of the possible plot yesterday afternoon. The two students were quickly detained, with “information found on their persons indicating the validity to the original report.” The students were taken into custody and search warrants were served at both their homes, according to the release.

Details are minimal at this point but the school and police department plan to hold a joint press conference at noon today. Police ask anyone with information pertinent to the investigation to call 725-7550.

On the afternoon of October 22, 2019 Fortuna Police Department and Fortuna High School received information of a possible plot between two Fortuna High School students to harm other students at Fortuna High School. The two students were quickly detained and information found on their persons indicating validity to the original report. The two students were taken into custody and are currently being held in Juvenile Hall.
Officers served search warrants at both of the juvenile suspect’s residences and are actively investigating the matter.
The Fortuna Police Department and Fortuna High School have an excellent working relationship and take the safety and security of students and school staff very seriously.
We remind our community that it is important to let us know anytime that a threat of this nature is received so that a potential tragedy can be prevented.

As this involves juveniles, Fortuna Police Department and Fortuna High School will not be releasing any names to the public.
The Fortuna Police Department and Fortuna High School is confident that there were no other subjects involved in the alleged plot, and that there is no risk to the safety of students at Fortuna High School.
The Fortuna Police Department will release more information as the case develops.
Fortuna Police Department and Fortuna High School representatives will be available to the media and public today, October 23, 2019 at noon at Fortuna River Lodge, 1800 Riverwalk Drive, Fortuna.
