Flows will be running higher and colder than usual this time of year, starting Sunday, due to scheduled releases from the Lewiston Dam.

With that said, the NWS also reminds those heading for some water fun to wear a life vest, keep an eye on the kiddos no matter where they go for a swim and to avoid alcohol.

Read the NWS Facebook post below:

Starting late Sunday afternoon and continuing through Labor Day, the Trinity River will be running higher than normal due to scheduled water releases from the Lewiston Dam by the Bureau of Reclamation. This will result in will result in unusually swift and cold water on portions of the river by September standards.

People visiting the Trinity River, or any other river in Northern California, should wear a life vest while taking part in water activities, keep a close eye on children, and avoid alcohol. Cold water paralysis can develop quickly and result in drowning if you are pulled into the fast flowing waters. Have fun, but be safe!
