Coast Guard Rescues Another Boat Today (With Video)

Yet another crab fishing vessel with two onboard was escorted back to port today, the fourth Coast Guard rescue mission in as many days.

The call came in around 10:30 a.m. and the Comet was back at Woodley Island by 1:30 p.m. after a prop failed. No injuries were reported.
On Monday, the Coast Guard assisted four Dungeness crab fishermen aboard the 58-foot Lori Ann, which had become disabled amid heavy fog.

The day before, a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Humboldt Bay along with a 47-foot lifeboat crew from Humboldt and a C-27 Spartan fixed-wing aircraft crew from Air Station Sacramento searched unsuccessfully for a fisherman who went overboard.
The search was suspended 11 hours after the 1 a.m. accident.

Another fishing crew was rescued on Saturday after their boat began taking on water.

MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. — The Coast Guard assisted two Dungeness crab fishermen aboard a 32-foot commercial fishing vessel approximately two miles southwest of the Humboldt Bay south spit, Tuesday.

The Comet's crew contacted Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay watchstanders via VHF-FM channel 16 around 10:30 a.m., reporting a loss of propulsion due to a fouled prop.

Watchstanders issued a Marine Assistance Request Broadcast to ask for help from other boaters in the area. With no response to the Marine Assistance Request Broadcast, the officer of the day dispatched a crew from Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay to assist. A rescue crew launched aboard a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat and arrived on scene approximately 30 minutes after the initial call.

The Coast Guard crew placed the Comet in stern tow and helped moor the vessel at Woodley Island Marina around 1:30 p.m. The crew of the Comet did not report any injuries.
