Even though it’s supposed to be very difficult to watch, I’m intending to see the recently released film American Doctor at the Minor Theatre on Sept. 16. I hope that you will join me.
The film is about three U.S. doctors, Jewish, Zoroastrian and Palestinian, who voluntarily go to Gaza to try to save as many lives as possible. The film follows them from when they were being bombed in a Gaza hospital to Washington, D.C., to talk with members of Congress about their experiences. International reviewers are already highly praising this film.
Regardless of one’s political alignment on the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, seeing this film will be a stark reminder of how horrific the atrocities the innocent people of Gaza have been facing, how our national media has minimized the conflict and our national leaders have failed by allowing this genocide to continue.
I encourage all of us to be informed and stay engaged in the plight of the Palestinians. No matter how hopeless things feel, there is power in speaking out against injustice.
