Thank you for the excellent Views article on Amazon in Humboldt County (“Amazon’s Negative Impact by the Numbers,” July 9, 2026). To those who want the sourced data on Amazon’s impact to local communities, read this article. It provides the sources. There is nothing good to say about the impact to our community that Amazon will incur for those living in Humboldt County. I am very tired of my friends and neighbors saying, “I have no choice but to order from Amazon for there are no local businesses that provide what I need. And shipping is free as a Prime member.” I say BS. You are part of the problem. Globalization and greed is the unpublished Amazon mantra. Check out Bezos’ recent wedding. Your orders helped pay for it. Look broader than your own personal need for a new Made in China something. Support local businesses before there are none at all here in Humboldt County. I dearly hope enough signatures were obtained to put this on the November ballot. And I dearly hope the people of Humboldt County have a broader, educated perspective than their own consumer needs and will vote to keep the Amazon business model out of Humboldt County. A bad business for Humboldt, its local businesses and the environment.
