This week’s edition contained a cartoon comparing a person refusing vaccination with a person refusing to evacuate in a fire and a person refusing to obey the speed limit (Mailbox, Aug. 18). It was demeaning and hurtful to people because of a healthcare decision. I made this decision after agonizing thought and research. When I got COVID, I treated it with herbs, supplements and rest. I also quarantined. I came out fine.
Without further debating the issue, I appeal to you to take it easy on me and a large portion of your readership. We don’t need more divisiveness at this time.

The analogy may not have been perfect but it is apt. Close enough for humor. Ignoring the speed limit increases both the likelihood and severity of injuries. Same goes for ignoring covid immunization protection. Individuals may choose differently and random anecdotal evidence of survival but that does not change the statistical odds of adverse outcomes.
