Press release from Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:
On 01-18-2013, approximately 10:30 a.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls regarding a man with a gun, described as a rifle walking on Walnut Drive towards the Cutten Elementary School. Initial reports were the man was wearing a Camo colored backpack. Deputies were immediately dispatched to the area and arrived within three minutes. Deputies located the man who at that point had walked past the front of the elementary school. The man was holding a 12 gauge Remington 870 shotgun above his head as deputies arrived. The man was wearing a camouflaged tactical vest loaded with sixteen rounds of 12 gauge buck shot and slugs. The shotgun was unloaded. The deputies immediately detained the man and asked him what he was doing. The 18 year old male told the deputies, “I am on the way to the courthouse to make a point that law enforcement can not protect kids and I am going to protect the kids.” The 18 year old male was taken into custody for a mental health evaluation and his weapon was seized.

Is that really the right message to put on here? “Don’t worry, it’s only a matter of time before some tweaker high on meth blasts a dozen little kids”. This is referring to what exactly? A need for such an action..? A type of individual that we can profile as a potential child murderer? What? And why? Be sensitive, this is not what parents of children want to hear. Be reasonable, is that really a valid concern? And for goodness sake, that was a horrible and tasteless thing to say.

He’s right, citizens with kids need to wake up, this is reality.

I grew up in eureka and my mom taught at cutten school and I still have family that goes to the school. This is very scary thing to read cause I live states away and there would be nothing I could do to project not only the ones I love in the school but also all the children and teachers . I am so grateful for those people who called the police and that there r still people out there that watch everything that’s goes on in their community

Who wants to understand that this guy most likely did what he did because of MEDIA? Media amplifies the negativity that they report because of greed.
