A passing shout-out to Arcata from a writer who dared to read the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution in a New Mexico airport when TSA wanted to scan, scan, scan:
People walking to the gate stare wide-eyed, but no one stops. In my hometown of Arcata, someone would have whipped out a cell phone and filmed it for You Tube, or at least “Shame!”ed the police for this act of cruelty.
See her full post on AlterNet, with the charming headline “Bizarre: Woman Roughed Up, Arrested for Reciting the Constitution during TSA Inspection.” She’s got the same tale up on her own cryptic website. Seems like someone worth knowing — why so incognito, T.P.? It’s not like you’re the Mirror, sayin’ stuff you outta be ashamed of.
This article appears in The Trimmers.

Thank you for sharing this!
This is not very surprising. The Emperor wears no clothes.
Interesting; a post which lauds the excercise of the First Amendment right of free expression, which ends by slamming another blog for excercising it’s (their?) right to free expression under the First Amendment. How very meta.
Way to blame the victim, Red! Remember that in spite of YOUR unsolicited hassles!
But Red, you are now slamming a blog “which lauds the excercise of the First Amendment right of free expression” for slamming another blog.
That was the meta part. Didn’t you get that?
Red probably doesn’t mean “a compound formed by dehydration,” but he’s suspiciously whiney.
RED, don’t use big words like “meta” it’s to much for some on the left. Remember some of them (the left) think that The Humboldt Herald is a “news” blog. Just like some on the right think Fox News is “real”.
Leave it to a clod to insist that “meta” is a “big word” in an attempt to slam others.
Hypocrisy, is that a big word?
Brian, it would only be hypocritical in this case if, because of internet comments, she physically detained and searched somebody, much like the incident of discussion is hypocritical of our supposed freedom. You and Red, sirs, are typical blog brains.
People like Brian and Red accuse others of hypocrisy when they themselves are busily framing fantastic, morally superior spin jobs. Good work boys!
Jeez Louise, you guys need to lighten the heck up.
What a meta thing to say, Red. You’re still an idjit.
You know, I’ve never said this before, but you guys need to take another bong hit and mellow out a little.
dude, red…chill out a bit and smokeabowl. your’re a moron, nothing to freak out about.
I think the Mirror bugs are proud as shit and still laughing themselves half to death making fun of things like, say, a new editor who thinks people should be ashamed to espouse political views other than her own.
Its mission creep… http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2011/10/mission-creep-this-tennessee-highway-is-now-patrolled-by-tsa/247243/
“Proud as shit” doesn’t sound impressive. Just sayin’ Hugs!
Speaking of unimpressive, you seem pretty desperate to play in their sandbox. If it would be helpful, I could suggest more productive ways of working through those early childhood issues.
Hmm. Dork talks about playing in the sandbox and then suggests “more productive ways of working through those early childhood issues.”
Bizarre hugs, Dork.
We all love to make noise about this…me included. I’m a business traveler and so I deal with this shit constantly. Most TSA employees are just trying to make a living like the rest of us. That doesn’t excuse their sometimes rude treatment of and dismissive behavior toward their “customers”, but that’s got to be a terrible job. Anyway, every work place has nimrods who try to throw their weight around because they have a superiority complex or a small dick, whatever…it happens. TSA is no different, though I suspect they hype these people us with an inflated sense of their own self-importance. The question I ask myself every time I get in line to go through security: Would I want to board this plane if no one was checked…no x-ray..no pat downs? I don’t know…but I’m interested in what others think.
Hey folks, Is the U.S. far better off keeping Syria’s Assad?
Wow, your blog is very fascinating!
