, in conjunction with the North Coast Growers Asssociation Farmers Market, are sponsoring the local event in an effort “to raise awareness … and to identify local impacts we expect to see from a changing climate,” according to a press release. The group is also hosting 15 cyclists who will be pedaling their bikes from Arcata next Monday and arriving in San Francisco the following Saturday, which, BTW, is The International Day of Climate Action.
Local cyclists can show their support by accompanying the cyclists on the first 10 miles or so, departing the GreenWay offices (on the corner of 8th and N) at 7:30 a.m. Monday moring, proceeding along Highway 101 and culminating at the gazebo in Old Town, where unspecified “leaders” will welcome the amateur

how much co2 is being produced by this ‘demonstration’?
Adult human respiration produces 3-4 lbs of CO2 per day. Gasoline combustion produces 19 lbs per gallon. The electricity required to run a 100 watt lightbulb 24/7 for one month produces approximately 100 lbs depending on prevalence of coal/natural gas for regional electrical needs.
However, humans surrounded by forest do not add to atmospheric CO2 due to their own respiration as vegetation converts this into sugars. So… there wont be any net CO2 discharge until the demonstrators reach civilization.
