Hooray for the new Wal-Mart (Mailbox, Jan. 12)! With its redwood-busting megatrucks and record of cannabalizing local trivial businesses, our shopping needs will be fulfilled. Wal-Mart’s wise use of cheap labor, no benefits and cheaper goods are a true icon of the American way! It’s awesome the way they ignored local voters and slipped secretly into the rear end of the Bayshore mall! Congrats!

It is only the vocal few that don’t want a Walmart.

Barabara could possibly be correct, after all, Americans have for the most part embraced the race to the bottom.

Overwhelming national and local economic research confirm and repeat the negative impacts that rural economies suffer from low-wage saturation.
After a solid decade of undeniable evidence, mainstream media remains the last to know.
Thanks Dave.
Unwitting victims will shop and work at Walmart, right up until the the competition diminishes, shopping choices narrow, Walmart limits its stock and raises its prices just before they move on, leaving their empty hulk behind…with local families scratching their butts wondering what the Hell happened.
Just like the other numerous rural cities across America that the media never heard of.

Redwood busting Megatrucks? There isn’t a whole lot of Redwood Trees® that would be damaged on 299 from Walmart’s MEGATRUCKS®
Since you do know that Red Bluff is the DC (that’s lingo for Distribution Center) that will be supplying your local Walmart in the Bayshore Mall. But once again, please don’t let facts get into the way of truth, as it interrupts your drum circles.
40 tons is 40 tons. And most of the loads into the area won’t weigh that much. Too bad that the roads into Humboldt County are so poor and not up to STAA regs, otherwise the Eureka store could be served by one of Walmart’s Hybrid Diesel Semi trucks.
I bet that makes all you just kick your VW Buses, knowing that Walmart has more eco-groovy trucks than you.

“…please don’t let facts get into the way of truth, as it interrupts your drum circles….too bad that the roads into Humboldt County are so poor and not up to STAA regs”,
Too bad all those tractor-pulls and bum-fight videos keep you from noticing the “illegal” STAA trucks already heading North on 5th Street in Eureka every day.

299 and 101 are not STAA approved truck routes. So unless you are saying that it would be smarter for them to re-route all the way through Oregon and down….
That’s real green and groovy.

I repeat: STAA trucks are, (and have been for years) illegally driving north on Hwy. 101, with little enforcement, and minor fees for violators.
Go downtown an watch them…everyday….
It appears that your bigotry is well-served by your poor reading/comprehension skills.
Another Humboldt County legacy.

I’ll take it you have figured out that I am correct, and won’t say you’re wrong.
