Robbin’ Hoods

(June 4, 2009)  Editor:

Thanks for your column of May 14 (“Town Dandy”)! In some of our “community” meetings here, I’ve listened to certain of our local growers smugly and proudly romanticize themselves as “outlaws.” I get the feeling that they envision themselves as Errol Flynn clones flitting through the forest dressed in green tights as they continually outwit the Sheriff. To me they look more like petty crooks.

Keep up the good work!

The growers are nothing better than bootleggers, if they must have some sort of ‘outlaw’ identification - entrepreneurs who don’t wish to comply with any sort of regulations governing their industry/product. ie - the new mob.

The ‘robbing hoods’ are the ones with guns going around stealing the stashes of the above bootleggers, who do make insane amounts of money from their illegal efforts. Notice these armed thugs don’t perform home invasions on homes that haven’t been converted to grow ops.

Neither group deserves any sort of respect or glorification, but its good to see even in this lawless land that there are checks and balances in place.
