Fig Leaves

(May 21, 2009)  Editor:

Unlike Mark Letlow (“Mailbox,” May 14), who would prefer to see “st” and “fk” instead of such everyday, evocative words being spelled out in full, I can’t stand the use of asterisks! Nothing annoys me more than being brought up short, in the midst of reading an otherwise interesting article, by the intrusion of those prissy, “oh dear, our readers are SO fragile and easily offended” asterisks.
