Art War!

(Aug. 21, 2008)  Editor:

Well, Mr. Handy, all of us artists who don’t fit your narrow definition of “Art” (“edgy” seeming to be your sole criteria) love you too (“Escape From Arcata,” Aug. 7). The art scene is doing so well here and the artists are all making such a good living that of course we have the time and leisure to snark at each other with cheap shots like “I went on several studio tours and didn’t see anything worth a shit.”

How nice. Have you opened your studio so that we can all share the pleasure of seeing work by someone who has Sold Their Work Through Galleries In New York? Or do your creations fit the late, great, Al Capp’s definition of Abstract Art: “A product of the untalented, sold by the unprincipled, to the utterly bewildered.”

Cheers, babe. I hear there’s cheap studio space available in Barstow. Sincerely, one of the local apathetic Mfs.
