I-Block Party

What:

Vengan Todos. Join the festivities at the 25th Annual I Block Party taking place this year on Labor Day, Monday September 6th from noon-6pm. It is a fun-for-the-whole-family event to benefit Arcata’s sister city Camoapa, Nicaragua.

Each year Arcata residents raise money to support development and scholastic projects requested by the community of Camoapa and to foster cross-cultural exchanges between the two towns. In the past we have helped in the construction of buildings and a basketball court, in the installment of latrines and wash stations and in providing medical supplies. We are currently funding scholarships to elementary and high school students as well as nursing students.  The Sister City Project is currently working in conjunction with our local branch of Engineers Without Borders on various water projects in the Camoapa area. All of the proceeds from the I Block Party go toward these projects and more.

This year, we are especially proud to announce that five long-time friends from Camoapa will be present at the I Block Party this year to celebrate a quarter century of friendship.

The party includes live music by Lost Coast Marimbas, Ani Quartet, Berel Alexander Ensemble, and Singing Nettles. There will be local beers, albacore, chicken, or tofu barbeque dinner, desserts, a kids’ area, a silent auction, and raffle. Admission is free. Don’t miss this very special I Block Party.

For more information about the event, the project, and volunteering please contact Cheyenne Montalbin and Tessa Pitre @ 677-9426
