The Rotary Club of Eureka has awarded a $1,600 grant to the Humboldt Bay Rowing Association to help purchase a new outboard motor for its youth rowing program. The grant comes from Rotary’s Small Grants Program, which supports local organizations working to create positive, lasting change in the Eureka community.

The Rotary Club of Eureka is dedicated to service, both locally and globally, with ongoing initiatives including fighting food insecurity, empowering youth, promoting literacy, and partnering with other community organizations. Small Grants are funded by Rotary members and community donors and are awarded to nonprofits and public benefit groups working in youth development, senior support, community health, literacy, and homelessness.

The Humboldt Bay Rowing Association is a 100% volunteer organization.  Its Junior Crew program provides rowing opportunities and leadership training for local youth aged 12 to 18. The program boasts a 100% high school graduation rate and a 99% college attendance rate among its student athletes. The new grant will help HBRA replace an aging outboard motor, ensuring the safety of coaches and the continued success of its programs.

“Visiting the waterfront on a nice day and watching the rowing teams glide across Humboldt Bay is a classic Eureka experience, and the Rowing Association is teaching local youth great skills and values.” said Rotarian Kate Witthaus. “We’re proud to support them.”
