Wearing formal hat wear on the sixth annual Ladies Hat Day at the Humboldt County Fair on a hot, smokey Saturday got you free admission into the horse races and a chance to compete for some big prizes. See some of the feats of fashion in the slideshow below.
More than 50 women, men and children wearing a creative mix of hats paraded on the race track in front of the grandstands after the fifth race for judging and winners were announced after the sixth race.
Ladies Hat Day "Hatagories" included Most Glamorous, Best Racing Theme, Funniest or Most Outrageous, and Best Couple or Group. Generous prizes were offered for the Grand Prize winner chosen from the winner of the four "Hatagories," the Runner-up and winners of the four categories.
