There are disgusting people, with urine stained pants, stealing your wallet, stealing merchandise or eating the contents of the box. We need to DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE BUMS.
I don’t go to Winco because once my window was smashed in and my radio was stolen, another time a bum was following me in December from Winco to my car when he got within 10 feet I threatened him with my mace and he kept coming so I sprayed him. I’m sure he was high on meth.
In 10 years, I’ve had one Winco incident — a woman in pajamas who followed me thinking I was her grandmother (I guess Grannie sports a heavy beard).
In that same time, I had a hoarder (car filled with trash) who verbally assaulted me outside an Arcata Safeway for dinging her car door. When I opened my door to its full extent to show there was still 12+ inches of clearance, it didn’t dissuade her.
McKinleyville is probably the only place I don’t expect to encounter this strangeness. A lot of it has to do with the time and day you choose to shop.
I was arriving at the WinCo store and a vagrant stuck his head in my car door window and took my purse. I was so frightened, so scared to do anything. I do not like Eureka, don’t like it at all.
We always call Winco “big butt city”. Higher proportion of population than anywhere else. That being said, the prices and selection are good and certainly not as expensive as Safeway.
While you’re at it, maybe you could get Winco to clean up their filthy, smelly bins in the meat dept. That’s soooo gross. Oh and maybe they could stock healthy food, such as low-sodium or sodium-free items, organic FRESH produce, low fat or non-fat items, and so on. Most of the food in that store is not edible, it’s either rotten, refined, or processed.
I am quite tired of the Winco generalizations. Seems they smack of classicism. I have actually heard from people who choose not to shop there because of “welfare moms with screaming kids,” “meth addicts,” “whores,” “Mexicans,” “white trash,” etc. Well. These folks have to shop, too. Please suspend your automatic judgment. First, you are missing out on a store with excellent prices, a wide selection and plenty of vegetarian options. Second, you miss out on some lovely people. If you walk through Winco with an open loving heart, it’s amazing how the environment changes. I’m an older gal who tends to be a bit slow, but I am treated with nothing but kindness at Winco. Because I don’t choose to look with judgment upon the various individuals who shop there, and I swear that they respond to my chosen vibration. Mr. Mielke, I challenge you to stop the generalizations of the people of Eureka. It’s getting quite boring.
Going the way of Winco has been a humbling experience. I make a decent living and honor my family by feeding them whole foods. However, with the rise in the cost of everything, we now shop at Winco instead of the co-op. We eat simply, don’t spend money on wasted calories, nor do we throw away money on things like cable or cell phones. Get it? I’m working middle class and cannot afford the prices at the Co-op, ENF or Wildberries. They surely are beautiful stores, lovely buildings in which to shop…but at what price. Thank you Winco for keeping my family fed. If you offered more healthy choices, you’d have even more customers. Oh and PS the cashiers at Winco are very kind.
When I was going to HSU we would make a weekly Winco run. We had to always have one person watching out for wallet theifs and perverts. The place is really gross but cheap, I’d rather be starving though. The Winco in Eureka IS disgusting.
The place Winco is very dangerous place to go after dark. My wife wont go to that store at all after three dangerous vagrants took her groceries and her money last year.
I just ate a wonderful dinner of Winco food! Compare the prices of organic soy milk at Winco and the co-op and decide where the intelligent people would shop. Winco does no worse for the absence of elitist pansies like Mielke.
The WinCo in Eureka has a serious rat infestation problem for the last year. If you look on the surface and the floor you will see feces everywhere if you go in the AM. They sweep before opening every day.
Winco is a great food store! The only thing that really got me upset that I got my car stolen there. I have two small children and coming out of winco with 2 small children age 1 and 4 with a cart full of food and not seeing my car there was horrible. It hapend to my friend too so I just dont think im going to ever go there again…Love the store, hate the lack of security in the parking lot. This happend at the winco in elverta, antelope. Im praying to God to please help me get my car back .

Don’t get distracted, Dave. It’s the perpendicular slow-pokes we’re highlighting here.
Winco aka Uglyville.

Oblivious human blockade occurs at every store, not endemic to Winco.

WinCo is not as bad as Wildberries. I always encounter folks just standing around and talking there.

Here here Eireen! The Winco cartoon smack of elitism to me and fail to amuse me.
Joel,
Stop offending the offendable.
Thanks!

Wow. All of this over Winco? It really ins’t that bad. I shop there all of the time and never have problems. honestly, it could be a whole lot worse.

Where does Three-eyes-and-still-blind think I make my WinCo observations from? I’ve loved WinCo from the first time I shopped there.
And the complaints about the staff at WinCo are pure horse-shit. The workers at WinCo are invariably helpful and patient.

Winco doesn’t “open” in the morning. As far as I know, they’re open 24 hours.
