Once again

Was that a commercial clipart photo on last week's cover?

No, it was our own graphic arts team re-creating a clever cover shot to illustrate the Journal's Holiday Gift Guide.

(And posing for the shot was our own graphic artist Matt O'Brien, right.)

We want to remind Journal readers -- and advertisers! -- that this year the Gift Guide will continue as a weekly feature up until Dec. 21, with many new items each week. You should have no problem finding just the right gift in our anti-chain store guide. For instance, a local health club membership doesn't really say, "You're out of shape." It says, "I want you around for a long time. Let's grow old together." (My own husband once got me a car detail certificate and said, "Here. Pretend it's a new car!" Who says he's not romantic?) Or hop on www.loletacheese.com and send some of Humboldt's legal product to your out-of-state relatives. There are also many items by local artists and crafters and weekend getaways in your very own backyard.

So put your feet up by the fire and enjoy your holiday shopping.
