Soroptimist International of the Eel River Valley (SIERV) honors three senior girls each month from local high schools for various achievements. In December, our Girls of the Month program honored three senior girls in the area of athletics: Olivia Hayes, Fortuna High School; Quinn Stokesberry, Ferndale High School; and Janice Walters, East High School.
Olivia Hayes played a variety of sports during her high school career at Fortuna High School: JV volleyball, JV basketball, varsity soccer and varsity softball. In addition, she was involved in the Student Athlete Advisory Council, committee chair for FFA and a Husky Pack leader. She received honorable mention in varsity soccer and softball as well as the AGBIO outstanding student award. In her community she is active as a softball umpire at youth softball camp. Olivia plans to attend Chico State University in the fall and major in nutrition. Her future goal is to become a dietician or nutritionist, as she knows that good nutrition is essential for healthy living.
Janice Walters played soccer during her high school years. She is currently a student at East High School. In addition to her studies, she works at Kome Restaurant. Her future plans include college. Janice hopes to have a career in pediatric health.
Quinn Stokesberry played a variety of sports during her high school years at Ferndale High School: volleyball, basketball, softball and track. She also participated in cheerleading and FFA, raising a lamb to show at the county fair. She received Scholar Athlete awards for basketball, cheer and softball; in 2025 she received the Golden Glove award for softball. In her community she volunteered with cleanup activities with the River Life Foundation. Quinn plans to attend Oregon Institute of Technology and major in pre-MIT training. Her future goal is to become an ultrasound technician.
