Mas Fascismo

Editor:

I found Dave Berman’s letter in “Mailbox” (Aug. 14) very interesting, and would like to offer some further comment. It seems to me that at the beginning of the Reagan Administration, machinery was put into operation gradually to transform American society into a feudalistic society. There was something of a hiatus during the Bush 41 Administration, but it has reached its peak in the current Bush Administration.

Unions were done away with and declared un-American. Jobs have been taken away and sent out of the country. Prices of consumer goods have skyrocketed and and wealth and power has been concentrated in the hands of the corporate aristocrats. The former middle and lower middle classes have become nothing but serfs and fodder for the corporate hunger. When an average American citizen can’t afford health care, prescription drugs or sending a child to college the outlook for the future becomes bleak. And corporate lobbyists have much stronger voices in our national and state legislative bodies than common citizens do.

It seems that we need some reorientation if we are to regain our former healthy living conditions.
