Regarding "Very Last Asset" (Letters, Feb. 24), I cannot believe that Abbey and her neighbors pay $250 a week to stay in that dive! I saw one of the rooms 16 years ago when I first moved to the area and mistook it as a place I might stay for the night. The clerk realized that I was not the usual customer and sent me to check out the room first. I was appalled and left quickly. I'm sure not much has gotten better there since then.
This is highway robbery. By charging homeless people exorbitant prices for shelter, the owners of the establishment are creating an environment that encourages, if not requires, drug dealing and prostitution.
The term "slum lord" comes to mind. Enjoy that ice cream, Abbey!
