Join the Redwood Region Audubon Society for a presentation entitled “Problem Solving in Wild Steller’s Jays.” Steller’s Jays often need to solve novel problems to access human food sources. Speaker Derek Harvey, a master’s student at the Humboldt State University Wildlife Department, studied innovative problem-solving in a color-banded population of Steller’s Jays in Arcata. The fascinating results of this study enhance our understanding of the role innovation plays in individual behavior and social learning in wild birds. Bring a mug to enjoy shade-grown coffee, and come fragrance-free.
