Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse Anniversary Ceremony

When: Sun., May 26, 2 p.m. 2013
Phone: 677-3816
Sunday, May 26 will be the eighteenth annual ceremony at the Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse. The lighthouse, the most photographed spot in Humboldt County, is more than a picturesque site. Plaques on the walls around the lighthouse memorialize those who were lost at sea or those who were buried at sea.

Every year members of the Trinidad Civic Club invite the public to a ceremony that includes music, prayer, a Coast Guard presence, the solemn ringing of the 1898 bell, and the reading of each name on the plaques aloud.

The event starts at 2 p.m. with bagpipe music and a flag raising by Trinidad Girl Scout Troop 70534 and Boy Scout Troop 99. Those who have family members on the plaques are invited for refreshments after the ceremony in the Civic Club room of the town hall.

The Civic Club is in its centennial year and members raise money for scholarships, sponsor visits by the Bloodmobile, maintain the town hall kitchen, support the library and museum, and other service projects.

For more information, call 677-3816 or write the Memorial Lighthouse secretary at P.O. Box 295, Trinidad, CA 95570. ~ submitted
