The Pain That Follows

I hear your voice

And remember the birth,

Cluttered with wires and monitors

That measured your progress.

Somehow you survived,

A small, barking speck of life

Swaddled securely between conception

And what are the beginnings of living.

I never did explain

The pain that follows,

The love of life

And need for others...

When I read your words today,

I was wild with wonder:

"Insanity is now normalcy

You've reversed the axis of my world

Reality is no longer real

My mind can see the light

But my feet are stuck in the sand

Waiting in Vain

For a shot in the dark

To drift on a memory"

And stunned by the beauty

That sometimes follows pain.
