Summertime Care for Roses

In the Rose Garden at Redwood Acres on Sunday, July 19, 1 p.m., the Humboldt Rose Society will provide a workshop featuring a brief presentation and introduction of the hosts. Then those in attendance will meet in small groups or individually with the Consulting Rosarians (HRS members who have received special training and certification), and people will have the opportunity to ask questions about rose care: planting tips, fertilizers, watering, tools, deadheading, solving problem (like aphids and other critters, black spot, botrytis). Depending on where along the north coast someone lives, the CRs can make recommendations about which roses do best in the various micro-climates of the region. If participants bring tools, they can learn "hands on" about deadheading, thinning, pruning, cutting.....and care of the tools. No matter what someone's knowledge is about roses, this is a chance to learn more and with enough time left in the season to be able to see results and enjoy the blooms before winter.
