Summer's Gone

summer sneaked out like an ambivalent lover

morning eyes blink at the empty space in the bed

cool air and mist where summer's warm breath had been

a shock of red leaves (that I could swear were not there yesterday)

flutter in the wind, bronzed hands waving

goodbye goodbye goodbye
