Re: “Rebel Rouser

I'm sad to see the comments about the flag that so many men and women celebrate as part of their heritage. Southern folks do not see the confederate flag as a reminder of hatred for others but as a memory of a generation where honor and refusal to submit to the governments tyrannical rule was hard fought by all who believed in the right of free speech the right to have liberty and to prosper.

Re: “The Shut Out

Dear Linda,
I do appreciate your story. It is true that our local facilities have a lot to be desired, and the owner could obviously make some much needed upgrades. That being said I hope that every family member and friend out there will remember this,. while their loved ones are unable to be cared for in there own homes primarily for financial and or emotional reasons ,these local facilities have a huge responsibility and burden to take on the care of our elderly and less fortunate community members. Perhaps some personal involvement like volunteer programs etc. would provide the enormous need for help. Creating a loving and nurturing environment could be the single most important task at hand in these settings. The average person in a skilled nursing facility is at risk of feeling isolated and neglected. I have personal experience in being unable to care for my Grandmother at home. I understand the feeling of inadequacy and having let her down. But, that must not keep us away from our friends and family. It is especially for those reasons that we should be volunteering and visiting regularly , to be the the eyes and ears , the best advocates for those at risk. So... I challenge anyone that has an hour a week to go volunteer at one of our local skilled nursing facilities and make a difference.
