Re: “Caltrans to Close 101 North Sunday

SR 169 does not go all the way through to Crescent City. It is unconstructed between Johnsons and Klamath. The only option would be to drive over to I-5 and take it north to US 199 in Oregon and come back down.

Re: “The New Airport Name is a Real Mouthful

In response to Marnie, the Airport Code ACV will stay the same. As for the origin of the code, I'll take a stab at it. The airport was opened as a Naval Auxillary Air Station Arcata. Part of McKinleyville was once known as "Calville", so I'll guess the code stands for Arcata-CalVille.

Re: “School Wrong on Wal-Mart

Buzz, I should have expected such a response from the people who frequent this page. I understand you aren't happy that I found an exception to your argument. However, that does not mean that you need to resort to a personal attack on me; that is something that a child would do. Enjoy your directionless protests.

Re: “School Wrong on Wal-Mart

Buzz, apparently you didn't read my comment. My father DID exactly what you said can't be done. He raised two sons on a Walmart salary. We even had health insurance and dental insurance. But go on and keep believing that Walmart is bad and that absolutely nobody can get by on a Walmart salary.

Re: “School Wrong on Wal-Mart

Walmart must REALLY treat their employees bad, and not pay them enough to get by. Perhaps you should re-examine your statements. When I was growing up, my father worked at a Walmart. Contrary to what you people might think, we didn't have to get on welfare because of it. A paycheck from Walmart put clothes on my back, food on our table, and a roof over our heads. But I must be dreaming this because nothing Walmart does can ever be good. Some of you people are never happy unless you can be protesting something or someone, especially if they aren't local. I'm sure if Walmart got its start in Humboldt County grew just as big, you would have absolutely no problem with them building stores anywhere in Humboldt County.

Re: “Jesus Christ, Chester Cheetah Invited to Wal-Mart Opening Ceremony Mega-Party Extravaganza Festivities

If you don't like Walmart, don't shop there. It's as simple as that. As for people supporting low-paying Chinese jobs by shopping at Walmart, I suppose the computer you're typing your response on was made by an American making $30 an hour, RIGHT?
