All are invited to join City staff and Humboldt State University’s Department of Oceanography at the Arcata
Marsh Interpretive Center for “Science at the Marsh” on Sunday, February 9 from 9:45 to 11 a.m.
At this event, Dr. Jeff Abell, Dr. Tamara Barriquand and Dan O’Shea will discuss climate change and other local
and global effects of rising sea levels, as well as how short term and geological scale phenomena interact to affect
the community. Attendees will also gain an understanding of the mechanics of tides, including King Tides and
how they demonstrate what “normal” sea levels could look like in the future. Participants will also have the
opportunity to photo-document the King Tides as they are approaching their peak at approximately 12:06 p.m.
