Re: “Port of Call Eureka

The citizens of Eureka would have to "polish" this city up quite a bit before ANY cruise line would dock here. Just a short list of thoughts...
a. Who would build a safe docking facility and create a vibrant waterfront that is populated with anyone other than transients and traveling "green workers" after dark?
b. Will Redwood Transit and other public transportation start acting like a real transportation service with bus service on nights and weekends that was reliable and available? What about the limited taxi service in the area?
c. Will the "real" motels provide shuttle service to and from the dock? By real I mean motels like the Red Lion, Best Western, etc...not the prostitute and drug havens we have lining Hwy 101.
d. Eureka is a ghost town after dark; what business' will create a vibrant night life? There are really no night clubs to speak of in this area...
Look at the bigger problems of this area; economic depression (just take a look at all of the empty store fronts along Hwy 101), lack of employment opportunities (companies that pay their employees a living wage with benefits such as paid holidays, sick time, and medical benefits), the rampant drug problem in Eureka which spurs theft and violence. The community needs to clean up their own house before they can even began to entertain guests!

Re: “Two New Owners for 3 Foods Café

Another grower owned business in Arcata. The whole city is run by growers for growers; how else do you explain the pointless shops on the Plaza? The next time you're near the Plaza count the amount of head shops within blocks of each other...really? Arcata quit bitching about the growers; they are the only thing supporting the economy of your town...poor college students certainly can't! Who else would pay $5 for Tator Tots and some sauce poured out of a Sysco Can....get real!
