Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces."
COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.
Who will be the next to reign in Glory over the Kinetic Grand Championship!? Bear witness to an epic battle of glam, wit and bribery!
he Rutabaga Ball is modeled after traditional beauty pageants, but with an emphasis on fun. In the spirit of the Kinetic Grand Championship’s Glorious Founder Hobart Brown, the Ball includes a ball gown competition, question and answer session, a talent contest, and instead of a bikini contest, Rutabaga Queen contestants enact how they would cross Humboldt Bay. Between every round of the competition is a chance for contestants and their entourages to bribe the judges — a panel of Queens from years past.
2012 Rutabaga Queen Sohotshe Burns will be on-hand to crown the 2013 Queen.
The Rutabaga Queen represents the Kinetic Grand Championship for one calendar year after selection. She/ He/ It supports the racers and the public in their compliance with Rules A — Amusement is the gift we give and get, so all KGC participants, volunteers, spectators, and innocent bystanders must try their best to have FUN at all times — and H — Happiness, if you don't got it, fake it. The Queen is available for Kinetic events and fundraisers, media interviews, greetings of dignitaries and such other duties that shall arise during their reign.
DJs Itchie Fingaz, Gabe Pressure and Marjo Lak offer dance beats specially procured for royalty.
