Get the casino's right. Blue Lake Casino doe not have a large billboard on U.S. Highway 101. The Blue Lake Casino is located just off of State Highway 299.

Native American looking men. Thats so stereotypical. What does an Indian look like? We are all colors of the rainbow, pale with blue eyes, medium colored skin with green eyes, Asian looking, dark skinned, Hispanic looking and even albino. I for one am tired of stereotypical descriptions. Except for one, we are mostly under 6. Remember the Tea Party in Boston. White people dressed like Indians.

Welcome to the Redwood curtain Shonquinta Jones. We have been here thousands of years, killed at the hands of the Humboldt Militia a private army set upon killing as much Indians as possible or the Larabee Militia that wiped the Nongatl tribe off the face of the earth. Or perhaps read about the Chinese expulsion from Humboldt County, and the massacre of the Wiyot's by the pillars of the community at seven sites besides Indian Island. For every type of David Josiah Lawson murder there are 1,000 native souls murdered (notice that I do not use the word massacred).
Also think about Mr. Chin who braved opening a Chinese restaurant in 1954, the bravery of Jim Howard the first black man elected to the Eureka City Council in 1972 for 18 years, or the establishment of the Native American Studies Program at HSU in 1971, or the many accomplishments of people of color in Humboldt County.
Yes some people may not like our kind here but the reality is people of color were here first and the tide is turning. If you think racism is well and alive here, you didnt experience the 50s, 60s or 70s.

I've known Mark for 40 of those 62 years and he was once known as the Mayor of Willow Creek. He and his family and others like his have poured there blood, sweat and tears into creating a village from a once ramshackle stop-over to a town of vision. What the article fails to mention is that Willow Creek built their community with little or no outside interference from the County. Not because it wasnt needed but because it was never offered. Now with cannabis in the picture, all land use decisions are with the County and this poor little gem of a town has little or no influence on outside decisions regarding their town. Sad. I would probably consider moving as well.

Just a point of information. Mr. Wing lives in Hoopa. He is not a Hoopa Indian. Don't assume he is a Hoopa Indian just because he lives in the town named after the Tribe.

Bongio has gone on record as a certified racist. "That was a waste of my fucking time." Bongio stated off record. Those Indians the term he used is derogatory and as Chairman Hernandez stated the Tribes have names as published in the Federal Register.
