Re: “Pot POWs

Ryan, Can the men write letters? Maybe a written response is better than none. I believe they can write while in prison! Perhaps the warden can redact their answers... at least you'd have something. Good for you for following up on our guys in prison... which reminds me: Whatever happened to Bill Byron, the dispensary operator who sent mega pounds to PA and his dispensary was raided by state DOJ agents.... any follow up?

Re: “A New Journal-ista

All the best wishes for Grant. NCJ gains an asset. The Times-Standard's loss is NCJ's gain.

Re: “By the Breach

Fantastic photos. Our lagoons are such wonderful treasures for us and nature. Our gems along the coast, glistening brightly as we yearn to embrace them.

Re: “Arcata Fig's Video Closing

I sure have fond memories of Figueiredo's. They sure filled a need for a long time. They gave back Teto the community. David even reopened in McKinleyville after the fire! Good luck to the employees.

Re: “Downey Calls for Backup

-- The Sheriff may be concerned about giant grows, but re-read his last quote. “If the federal government is going to have the stance that any type of cultivation is illegal,” he said, “then I need some help here.” There is no IF. The federal government does take the stance that all marijuana is a federal crime. So who cares what the lowly county sheriff wants. The feds won't care once they are involved!! Careful what you wish for, Sheriff. Downey will be busting any grower the federal government wants busted no matter what he thinks. He cannot have it both ways.

Re: “Go, Seidner!

How does one "earn" an honorary degree? You don't. They are bestowed.

Re: “Unfair to Lovelace

Ms. Brooks does portray the new senior housing project in the most negative light;; as if building affordable housing for local seniors is a blight on the city of Arcata. Though I think the project is too close to the sidewalks, it certainly seems a reasonable option for the property. She implies that Mark Lovelace's position on the Board of Supervisors was key to the project. I guess she's not sure what roles the city and county governments play in city planning!
